The Arthritis Foundation, Metro DC Chapter is reaching out to dog lovers everywhere to participate in the largest Arthritis Dog Walk in chapter history as we promote exercise as a form of arthritis prevention and control among not only dog owners, but their canine companions as well. On Saturday May 30, 2009, we are asking the metro DC Dog community to join the Arthritis Foundation's favorite golden retriever, 2009 Arthritis Walk Dog Champion,"Timber" and his team on the National Mall, as we move together towards a cure for arthritis.
As you may know, arthritis affects dogs of any age, breed or sex. Studies have shown that as many as 1 in 5 adult dogs have arthritis. Although there is no cure, arthritis pain can often be managed with the help of low impact exercise, such as walking. Moreover, we have found that when both owners and dogs have arthritis, they are 65% more likely to better manage their condition!
There are several ways your organization can participate in this fun and exciting event:
· Form your own team or join other dog lovers on Timber's Dog team and receive a free doggie bandana (one per pup? please!). Bandanas, doggie treats and waste/scooper bags are first come, first serve, so register now while supplies last!
· Help us raise awareness and funds to prevent, control and ultimately, cure arthritis by selling dog bone mobiles at your organization! E-mail cthomas@arthritis.org for details!
· Help us spread the word!
